Bridge Demolition

I'll admit - the engineering genes in my family stayed with my father and my brother, but I'm confused about my efforts to destroy a bridge in Tragedy at Fastov.

I'm the Germans and attempted to destroy a heavy bridge over the river. It's a large bridge that spans over a river that is an entire hex. The map shows the red explosion indicating it has been blown up or deactivated, but I was able to move an armored car platoon across the bridge afterwards. Does this make sense? Are you not allowed to destroy such bridges? Any feedback would be appreciated!!!
