Scoring - how does it work - newbie question
I'm trying to understand how the scoring works for games reported to the ladder. I've looked around on the site, searched a couple of forums, looked in FAQs, but no joy. ELO I've found, but the "score" I haven't. Grateful for a link, and if it's really obvious please accept my apologies...

I am not sure about the link, but number of points is related to the scenario size. In the database you can find each scenarios size modifier (SM). Then the points scored are as follows:

Major loss 2*SM
Minor loss 4*SM
draw 6*SM
Minor victory 9*SM
Major victory 12*SM

I think this is somehow reduced when playing the team game, but I don't know the formula for it.

Thanks, that's very helpful and all I need. I had seen size modifier in the database and wondered what it was for. Now I understand why the score has varied for games I have played (though of course I play for fun, and there was never any ladder score in my 'wasted' years playing the AI..... Doh)

It has taken me a moment to realise why size of scenario should affect points, but I see it now - without the size modifier, if someone slogged away on a massive scenario they might think it odd that playing say three smaller scenarios in the same time earned them triple the points. Makes sense.

Glad you worked that out, yes the larger the scenario in terms of turns and units the larger the SM, the points for the victory level is multiplied by the SM to give you your total.Wink
