What are the standard optional rules I should be using?

Open any scenario in the game. Click the rules button at the bottom of the A/I Selection dialog. This will open the Optional Rules dialog box. At the bottom of that dialog box click default and the default rules will be the ones with check marks next to them.

The default rules were the ones tested extensively to balance the scenarios. Other optional rules are included to balance a game between players of different skill levels.

Play a number of scenarios / games with the default rules on to form a baseline for your style of play. Then adjust using the other rules to make the game easier or harder for you.

In PBEM play, most people prefer the default optional rule set.
