New to PzC, what next?

RE: New to PzC, what next?
Thanks, some useful pointers!

I think I will go for Salerno next, the Crete invasion especially looks very interesting.

Also disappointing to hear about Sealion, I was interested in that too (and still am!) but like you I also very much like these interesting what-if additions, and an Italian unit here and there could very well break up the monotony of only Brits vs Germans.

It is a serious shame though that apparently the MapMod for Panzer Campaigns works for none of the titles bought from the Tiller Software store. :(
Are there any alternatives for a clear, informative map that work with 2.0+?

Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I was missing! Thumbs Up Now I can finally resolve the AI turns at reasonable speed.

I hav'nt read all of the replies but for faster game play do this.
On the drop down menu under AI be sure to select/tick faster AI processing.

Don't fret about Sealion. It's all subjective. I like it fine. The units are small, typically company sized, but it's such a weird scenario and weird terrain that I enjoy it.

If you are enjoying Smolensk, then let me suggest that you would like Kharkov '42. It is a Russian encirclement attempt, followed by a German counter-encirclement attempt. The weather is good, so there is a lot of mobility. It's good fun.

I like Budapest, too, but then again, I like them all. Big Grin

Well, the problem for me is that Sealion is to little in what if... other games or scenarios covering Sealion offer more "fantasy" like french units, USA volunter units in allied side and well some of this in axis is not bad at all, if italians send airforces historicaly why not land forces in the what if??? is not like create a total new game, is add some extra units in both sides is not a bad idea... here i allways think in Volcanoman add-on for Middle east where you have a 1973 campaign with soviets and USA troops and is only a variant of historical scen.

Many times i like more specific scenarios than titles... at least in pre-JT titles... for example i like a lot the Stalingrad42 scen "Breakout of Group Zhuravlev" ... is a great scenario where both sides attack and defend at same time in diferent places... is extra fun because you need do all fast but enemy need do it to and is a small scen hehehe. Other scenario i like is the Minsk44 scen "The trap at Vitebsk" is a hard scenario for germans and appear Luftwaffe field divisions an "exotic" unit i like see in PzC titles.

Maybe the last titles released by Tiller are the best "equiped" in medium scenarios for example Tunis43 is a great title maybe last titles released in HPS start to have this... Budapest is a great choice to but the small infantry units made it lose a little.

PD: if you want try somediferent see this

My version of the only total mod of PzC... i think you can find the original mod in the web... is a diferent war... i think that using WWI engine Spanish civil war title is a good option... lets see hehehe.

Jarama37 is stand alone, you dont need install it over a PzC title (like with great Volcanoman add-ons), it is made over Kursk43 BUT over an old version, i try patch it some years ago but is not possible, you need play with an old engine version.

Simple download and unzip, is a "light" version with no sounds, the original mod has sounds but when i decide work over it i orientated it to PBEM and use as base the ideas from Volcanoman ALT scenarios, the good point is Jison made for it unit boxes and give me ok to use his great map mod.

If i dont remember bad first time i find the mod was.... in 2005 summer... what days hehehe.

RE: New to PzC, what next?
Salerno really wasn't a bad choice!

Didn't enjoy Crete as much as I thought I would, infantry combat over difficult terrain is... tedious. Propably just not the right scenario for me.
After 35 turns I held most of the objectives and I just left it at that, wasn't in the mood to continue.

Salerno is really fun though! I am playing as the Germans and it is a really difficult scenario (with a small Allied advantage set for the AI) with tons of options on what to do.
What I especially like about this scenario compared to, for example playing the Soviets in early war, is that even though the Allies are far superior, the Germans still have great units, just way too few of them! That makes for a very different defensive gameplay.

It's also cool to see the German organization with Kampfgruppen instead of the rigid Army-Corps-Division-Regiment from Smolensk.

RE: New to PzC, what next?
Small question by the way, I can't find it anywhere:
what is the difference between the regular scenarios and the "a" HTH scenarios? I understand that this would mean they are better for playing against a real opponent, but what is different about them?

RE: New to PzC, what next?
At the very least the VP required to win are changed to make it a more fair scenario (assuming the real person will do better than the AI, so it changes the VP's). I think in some cases release schedules of fixed units, etc, are also changed, but I am not sure on that...
