Rest assured that club is very active, recent things like the release of the new Peninsula title showed that it's still alive and kicking.
You should have no problem looking at the public sections of their forum, only thing you can't get into are the army specific forums(Allied Coalition / La Grande Armee).

I can suggest you to click first the button "Library" , there you'll find a lot of useful articles on tactic and strategy about these games.
Then check all that you can interest you, if you want to play the French then go on Grand Armee, if you want to play the Allied then go to Army of Coalition.
At the end go on the forum, the link is here and is called " The Rhine Tavern"
http://wargame.ch/board/nwc/index.php
Enjoy it, the club is very active, you can find a lot of players for a pbem and if you want to join it you'll have to do some training battle.

The benefit of the "Napoleonic Wargame Club" (NWC) besides the high quality of gameplay that the club strifes for, it has also sister clubs like the "American Civil War Game Club" ( http://www.wargame.ch/wc/acw/ ) and the "Colonial Campaigns Club" ( http://wargame.ch/1776/index.html ) and often the members are the same as in the other clubs so you can not only find friends & opponents in each club but across all clubs as these will likely be also in the other clubs.
Besides that these 3 clubs host not only playtesters but also persons that work for the companies that make the John Tiller games, a good example is Rich Hamilton who is member of all 3 clubs and in the development team of JTS( http://johntillersoftware.com/Team.html ).
He is also behind the latest Napoleon release form JTS "Bonaparte's Peninsular War" http://johntillersoftware.com/Napoleonic...teWar.html .

Yes the club is very active and undergoing some major organizational changes.
The mandatory training game is now optional by the way.

I'd say most folks in the NWC and sister clubs are also members of the Blitz.

Waterloo is a good choice. You will get a lot of company level scenarios as a bonus in the expansion pack. The full battle at that level is really impressive! Hours of fun guaranteed. Peninsular War of course is all the rage as that has only just been released and all the scenarios are already uploaded in the Blitz database.

I agree Waterloo is a fine game to get and you'll enjoy the variety it offers, get the expansion packs too. The campaign map is very large and allows for some good maneuvers and situations. Well worth the time & a good way to get into the series.

Do consider the NWC, they have all the staff, members, opponents and support you'll need to truly enjoy PBEM Napoleonic gaming, besides the Blitz too. Don't mind the dust, as there was some loss of pages that occurred recently and the forums are currently having their settings worked on, but once you get a log in, you can see it all. Plus in the next few weeks a number of the websites will be replaced with new ones and in a few months all webistes will have been changed out. Helmet Smile

Like mentioned above, a lot of folks are members here too, so you can carry your games to both places. The Blitz here is a good operation too, so don't ignore it. Helmet Wink

Waterloo seems a good decision, one of the older games but it got a patch for the JTS and HPS versions recently so your really good to go with that one.

Regarding the NWC forum, it's is currently worked on because somehow a guest was able to post there so they have to figure out what's up with the right permissions, so for now it isn't visible to guests but that should be solved soon hopefully.

Anyhow welcome to the Napoleonic Wargamer Community! NAP2

One more thing to note is that there are really two sets of games in the Napoleonic series. One set, consisting of Waterloo, the Russian Campaign, and the Peninsula use a movement point system that is fairly simple and allows for faster road movement. The other system, consisting of the remaining games-Austerlitz, Jena-Auersted, 1814, Leizpg, Bautzen, Eckmuhl, and Wagram (all of these designed by one person, Bill Peters) uses a more complex (and in my mind better) movement system that is a little less intuitive but more in line with the Panzer Campaigns movements system, where the number of movement points are higher, but the cost is also higher (so if a unit has 22 movement points, a clear hex might cost 4, with elevation adding 2. A pike road might cost 2, a simple road 3, a trail 4...)

I have submitted my application form to the NWC.

It seems by mistake, I've applied to join the Coaliton. No biggie. Whistle
