First Panzer Battles Tournament

RE: First Panzer Battles Tournament
It is fine to start the third round with the scenario I sent out to the tournament players. I am not aware of any changes in the first patch that would have significant change to this scenario or would be dramatic enough to affect the outcome.
The largest changes are already in the scenario sent to the tournament members.

RE: First Panzer Battles Tournament
Dog Soldier, when a game is forfeited, how many points does the victorious side get? Tournament standings without numerical points increase the tension, but they also make it difficult to see how far you are ahead/behind in points.

I just noticed beerweasel's major victory in Yakovlevo came from a forfeited game and if he only got 600 points from it (the major victory level), that wouldn't be fair considering how many points the Germans can get if things go well.

My impression of it being quite difficult for the rest of us to catch up to him was based on the idea that he was hundreds of points ahead of us, which could only be made good by a spectacular victory in Ozerovskii as the likely margin in Nechaevka wouldn't be able to cover a ~500 point gap.

RE: First Panzer Battles Tournament
Forfeits are not a means of holding back or spoiling your opponents standing. Neither does it help them.

I have structured the tournament so that players are competing against those who fight with the same side. Soviet players compete with other Soviet players. Same for the Axis. Thus a forfeit, while an option for a member under club rules, counts only against that player which forfeits and does not diminish the other player. A member who forfeits hurts only themselves in this tournament.
I think that answers your basic question.

Best for both sides to slug it out to the end as was done historically.

As to your assumptions on how the scoring works, well, that is just whistling in the dark. Whistle

RE: First Panzer Battles Tournament
With the release of the first patch, I think it best to follow Strela's advice and finish any games in progress before applying the patch. For our tournament i want everyone to finish the current third round battle before applying the patch. The fourth round will be played with the patch and all patch changes to the game engine will then apply.

RE: First Panzer Battles Tournament
This is confusing. First you wrote that the patch wouldn't affect the outcome, and now you want us to play the pre-patch version.

It would be helpful to post if we can patch before the patch is released, as it wasn't clear and I patched, based on your comments that it wouldn't affect the outcome and Ricky B's comment that the changes would be applied normally.

This is ones of the reasons why I wanted to wait with starting until the patch was released, to prevent such a misunderstanding.

As to forfeiting having an effect on the tournament score: if casualties are counted for points, it would have an effect if the game was forfeited as fewer casualties will be caused. The same goes for objectives, as fewer might be captured, so wouldn't it always have an effect?

I have not heard from 10-3 in over 2weeks and have sent and have sent a few emails and have not heard back.

When we started we were moving along at a pretty good pace now have not heard anything.

The scenario I sent out is from the first patch. What I was saying was the first patch scenario file and the one I provided are one and the same. Since the third round started well before the release of the first patch, and all the pairs of players would be at different point in their games, it seems only fair that no one patch until the current game for the third round they are playing has ended.

The patch now includes changes to the game engine. Those game engine changes came after I made the comment here at the blitz. Strela detailed those game engine changes out very carefully in his post with the link to the patch.
Now if anyone already patched, I would prefer you remove the patch by loading the original game in a separate directory to finish the third round. Since members are competing against each other playing the same side, and some are nearly finished, it would not be fair for some to play the round with the patch installed while others finished without it.
If you made a mistake by applying the patch and played a turn or two, just copy the PBEM file to the directory with the game installed without the patch and finish that way. A single turn or so played with the patch will not be the end of the world.

The scoring method was developed with forfeits already considered. I can not take all the credit. It is a modified version of the one used in the recent Squad Battles tournaments. I made a few modifications to handle forfeits and the unique way Panzer Battles games tend to go. It is a very fair system.

Richie61, I will put you down as my second alternate if someone drops from the tournament. I already have someone in the wings as first alternate.

RE: First Panzer Battles Tournament
Congratulations on the victory Kuriltai!

We're on turn 12, my men are moving to the second 50 point objective on the hills in the west and are preparing for an attack on Nepkhaevo. German losses are reasonably low thus far, about 400 men and a dozen vehicles knocked out from all causes as well as a couple of breakdowns.
