RE: Le Hamel – The Salient AAR by Gstockbridge
Lovely, AAR, thanks. Gripping stuff - full of tension because the reader knows more than each player (having both sides). Nicely written so I'm very clear about what both sides are trying to do and can clearly see the results on the map.
I would like - if possible - to either be told or be able to see visibility each turn, as I've found that crucial for planning tactics with tanks standing off etc, though it's true once you're in the bocage you might as well be in 1 hex visibility fog the whole time.
The lethality (or not) of arty and air (which is clearly frustrating) is interesting. It seems to add up to historical casualty levels over an entire scenario, but it's true that it seems to very rarely (if at all) have true stopping power (as it does in Panzer Campaigns, where each use, I guess, is the equivalent of 4 turns worth here), even against lower quality troops. I think it's ok though, no? Because casualties at the end of these bocage battles are atrociously high anyway - any more lethal arty would make it ridiculous.
Looking forward to the next section! Thanks again.
