Forests and Leaders

Forests and Leaders
I just lost a brigade leader to rifle fire.  I had him enter the line to raise the morale of a disrupted regiment.  Unfortunately, even with only a 5% chance I would lose him, he was killed.  However I don't see a replacement leader.  Will the senior regimental commander replace him as brigade commander?  If the game doesn't produce replacement leaders, you won't see me put a commander into the front line again.

If he had been wounded instead of killed, would the leader still be in command?

The parameter file doesn't seem to differentiate between mounted and foot officers in terms of vulnerability.  Does it matter whether the commander was mounted or on foot when it comes to leader loss?  My leader was mounted.

Also is it my imagination or is the cost of forest movement variable?  I am in a PBEM game of Chickamauga with lots of forest.  Several times, units have not moved the distance I expected.  So is there some random possibility of increased forest movement costs to be greater than 5MP as listed in the data parameter file?

RE: Forests and Leaders
If you lost a brigade leader you should see the famous Col. Anon pop up as their new leader.  As to your movement question it should be same.  Be sure to check that you aren't making any elevation changes.

Thanks, I haven't seen Col Anon appear yet.  Maybe next turn.

Very odd about the forest movement.  Next time I notice it, I will note the hex number.  At the time I didn't see anything but forest.  Unfortunately I didn't note the actual hex numbers during the previous incidents.

I am pretty sure they don't always appear in the same hex as you lost them (been a while since I played an ACW game).  The "Anonymous leader" will show up at the beginning of your next turn with one of the regiments in the brigade.

RE: Forests and Leaders
Doesn't matter if the leader is wounded or killed, he is removed from the game. And indeed it doesn't matter if he was mounted or not.
Usually a replacement leader should appear but it can be that there are already multiple leaders for the brigade, in that case I think one of them is in command now. The next turn just mark one units of the brigade and turn on the organization highlight function and you should see all units of the brigade being highlighted, if turning on the leader on top function you should be able to find the leader for the brigade now.

Regarding movement in forest besides elevation, in case a unit was disrupted it got less movement point and won't be able to make it as far as the others.
