A question about screen resolution
Hi everyone;

I have noticed (probably along with many others) that with the more modern wide-screen monitors, the 'view 1' almost looks like the old 'view 2' did with the old-style monitors.  I have screenshots saved where I can compare the two; 'view 1' with modern monitors is noticeably 'zoomed out' compared to using an old CRT-style monitor.

I'm one of 'those' guys that really likes to look at the battlefield up close to see bunkers and other hard-to see map features, so my question is; will there ever be the equivalent of a 'view 0' so that players can 'regain' the ability to look more closely at the map if we wish?

This isn't a a huge issue; but it's always bugged me and thought it would be cool if we could zoom in even more closely then we currently can.

Thanks in advance for any replies. Helmet Smile

Edit: Would it be possible to edit an .ini file or whatnot in order to 'force' the screen resolution to change to my liking? Can't believe I didn't think of that till just now.

Pretty sure they can't do that. I know we discussed options when they were figuring out wheel mouse views. However, a work-around would be to lower your resolution while playing CS. If 1920x1080 (hi-def) is your current, try lowering it to 1280x720 which will still be 16x9 ratio, but should result in larger graphics. Just be forewarned that it will scramble your desktop icons when you revert back to 1920x720 so use a program to restore desktop, like DesktopOK.

I usually just switch to view 4 to see more finite stuff.....then back to 2 again :-)

RE: A question about screen resolution
If you are willing to try a 3rd party software, this poster at the Matrix JTCS forum suggested a software called 12noon to launch an older game with a lower display resolution:

>> MATRIX POST ABOUT SCREEN RESOLUTION <<

What 12noon does, it launches the game at a lower resolution without a need to tweak computer display settings. I recall I tried it at the time, found out it works, but never really used it.

The simplest solution of course as Dave suggested is to lower your display settings manually.

Not much else that can be done. We are introducing new Zoom-in views to Campaign Series via the new games, but there's nothing we can do anymore regarding the old JTCS games.

The relevant post is #8, above. The software is aptly called Display Changer. I have not tried the latest versions.

RE: A question about screen resolution
Thanks for the ideas fellas;

David, I never even thought about changing my resolution - good thinking.  I love the wheel-mouse view idea as well; it's so common in games now too.

Von Earlman - i love view 4, but the 3d close-up is where you really see the details on the units, plus (if you're like me) it can be helpful in revealing some hard to see units. I always seem to have trouble spotting bunkers (when they're in a hex with something else).  Thanks for the reply!

Petri, thanks for the info on the 3rd party tools to change resolution.  I had a feeling someone here would be able to point me somewhere.

Thumbs Up
