EP14 Visibility change probability
Hi!

What is the probability that the visibility changes in EP14?

During a PBEM of "1914_0826_01s: The Rout of Samsonov's Right Wing" we have programmed weather ON and the visibility is 2-4km.

The scenario started with 2km and the visibility did not change on any of the daylight turns. I got curious and set up the scenario against myself again and in 3 runs the visibility again did not change from 2km.

Any explanation for this?
Is  the change probability simply too low and I had bad luck?

Thanks!

RE: EP14 Visibility change probability
That scenario is only 7 turns and the weather will possibly change usually only in the morning, or sometimes (rarely) at the end of the day: it might say "visibility is worsening" on the last day turn.  For a short one day scenario don't expect the weather to change. jonny Mex Big Grin

Sounds legit.
Are there any hard numbers at which turns and with which probability it changes?

Yes, weather data file.   Big Grin2

I addition the EP 14 weather is very accurate. At first, the game used the same weather data as F 14. But when we tested the 1st Battle of the Masurian Lakes we noticed that the visibility seemed to be stuck on 2 hexes: but the evidence indicated that visibility was unlimited for that battle. The problem was that a big storm rolled into western France on September 12. But that bad weather didn't reach East Prussia until after the Masurian Lakes battle was over a week later. So now, EP 14 has its own weather separate from F 14.  jonny Helmet Smile

RE: EP14 Visibility change probability
According to the manual and what I have seen, visibility can change any turn. However, the weather.dat file is only applied at the start of each day, but not the first turn so it won't be used until after midnight. So the scenario is set to use 2-3 hexes, although starting at 2, it wouldn't impact the change of changing anyway.

Per the manual, it will tend to continue in the direction visibility is going over time, until randomly it changes direction - I don't know if there is a chance of it trending the same, but suspect there is. Nothing is documented as to the odds of a change in trend, so can't answer that question. However, the current trend is saved in the save game and if it is at 2 with a min vis of 2 and the trend is down, you won't see a change in the scenario this short, most likely.

RE: EP14 Visibility change probability
At some point the programmed weather in EP14 got significantly updated. However a big part of the early campaign's first half restricted visibility is intentional - because it cuts down on the gamey ability of the Russian 1st Army to rush for long LOS releases. That said, things were improved from recent feedback.

You will get all that in the next EP14 update, when the next FWWC title is released, then both F14 and EP14 will get a big update too. When will that be? Not sure, other than "When its ready". (hint: testing is underway though). :0

That teasing is mean  Helmet Wink

Any hints about the theatre?

I'm still hoping/waiting for my Austrians to make a full appearance...maybe in Galicia or the Balkans...

Good to see progress is being made on the next title.  Looking forward to it.   Helmet Smile
