ME 2.0 Reports and Suggestions
Just finished the install. I thought it might help if we all start listing suggestions/bugs/etc here. Maybe critiques, as well. I'll start:

I went to the scenario screen first, then decided to try a campaign to get used to the new look. There was no way to get back without exiting. I'd suggest adding "previous" or "main menu" buttons like there are for the other games.

The Unit Viewer F3 does not work as there is no path to the program.

Dave, it turned out it was not possible to override the [X] button in that particular MFC app that the legacy front end is, so it indeed closes the exe. Hitting <ESC> key gets you to previous window though.

Bioman: the Unit Viewer settings.txt has a typo unfortunately. Make sure the folder path is correct there, for instance if you installed at C:\Matrix Games then remove "2.0" from it. Sorry about that.

Maybe a text instruction about the esc key then? Not a big deal, though.

Thanks that took care of the Unit Viewer problem.

FWIW it is in the Manual, page 16...

RE: ME 2.0 Reports and Suggestions
Here's a couple of Bioman's observations from the "2.0 is out" thread:

Quote:Bioman
I have looked at the new game manual and it seems to be missing the same thing that the present manual is, namely a chart showing what countries the flags represent.

Also 75 buttons in the tool bar? The present 49 are to many as they are too small to see easily and are not intuitive as to what they are for like the 22 buttons in the WWII Campaign series. Looking at what the buttons are for I notice that almost all of them are for functions available in the pull down menus so no button is really needed.

True, there are no flag charts, a nice suggestion. I made a note to add that to the next Manual version.

As for the Toolbar, as you observed Toolbar now has icons for most of the actions as well, previously only available via Menu. Now, all (or most of them anyway) actions have a Menu option, Toolbar icon, or Hotkey for activation.

Toolbar extension was suggested by a couple of guys new to the series, as having icons visible makes it easier to learn and remember as what capabilities there are in the game. Large Toolbar is ON by default, it is possible to resize it or to take it off completely.

This is it, we hope, no more changes, so it remains the same from one game to another, with some minor tweaks for WW2 era (rifles instead of ARs, Piper/Storch profile instead of Helo).

Is it just on my poor old laptop or do others also observe much longer loading times to launch the game or load a scenario? All went smooth in the "old" version but now it is rather a pain to wait for a scenario to be loaded.

There's two changes that can attribute to longer load times I can think of.

First, the game engine itself is compile to include the C++ distributables, instead of loading them dynamically which, in the previous versions including JTCS 2.0 as well seemed to cause side by side errors for some of the players.

Secondly, the scenarios now load with the Event Engine engine (Lua), which might cause a small delay as well.

Let us keep an eye on this. What are your laptop specs? My very old laptop with an old Atom processor is showing these symptoms as well, it is very low spec though...
