The Salomon Islands push was as the whole island war in the Pacific should be: a series of bypasses to secure the main air bases, followed by two or three months of preparation for the next jump. The plan was called "Elkton", after which the Japanese troops on the Salomon Islands should be surrounded and neutralized. The attack on the Salomon Islands (called island jumping) was to form the right flank of the company Elkton. Take command of the 563 Infantry Regiment and take part in island hopping, conquer one island after the other.
