c_Question Mark  Decisions, Decisions
Hey guys,

For my next purchase, should I :

a) purchase Sealion '40
b) purchase Kursk '43 Gold
c) wait until France '40 Gold is out and purchase it
d) wait until North Africe 1941 PzB is out and purchase it

Criteria :
I do not have the patience/endurance for overly long scenarios/ or overly long campaigns.
I do enjoy when the Brits and the Gerries are on the battlefield at the same time
I do enjoy conflicts where armour is involved

Please help !

Thanks  Big Grin

NET - Pick a favorite theater and time frame. Search available titles. Pull the trigger on the purchase and start enjoying hours of fun and exciting operational game play!  [Image: eb381113d6m1helmet.gif]

Here's my decision making process when I purchased my first PzC title - Sicily 43 a few years ago.

(1.) Decide on favorite theater (Eastern, Western, or Mediterranean)

(2.) Decide on preferred early, mid, or late war time frame.

(3.) Search available titles that meet your criteria.

(4.) Purchase and download PzC title.

(5.) Load favorite mods. (Optional)

(6.) Back-up game with installed mods on a CD. (Much easier to restore game title installed with favorite mods from a CD if original copy gets corrupted.)

(7.) Join the TOC Ladder and advertise for PBeM opponents on the Tiller Operational Campaigns (TOC) Forum - that's this one!  [Image: wink.gif] Many players own several different titles, so finding an opponent for a game is usually easy.

(8.) Enjoy! Note - be prepared to lose your first PBeM matches to more experienced PzC vets... but once you grasp both the fundamentals and nuances of play, your wins will happen too!

So, for me. I had little knowledge of the Mediterranean theater, was interested in learning more about the campaign in Sicily and decided to purchase Sicily 43. I played around with various mods, settled on the ones I liked and then backed up my Sicily 43 game copy with installed modes on a CD. I advertised on the TOC Forum and within 24 hours found PBeM opponents. I promptly lost my first 2 matches out of the gate, but then quickly started to grasp the game fundamentals and play nuances. My wins came in and I discovered an interest in playing the larger (100+ turn campaigns).

I don't want to tell you how to spend your hard earned cash!  Big Grin

All Mikes advice is very sound, but I wonder if you like Brits vs Gerries and lots of armour then it might be worth waiting for PzB 3 North Africa or maybe consider one of the PzC North Africa titles ( just to add even more choice!)  Whistle

As for scenario sizes all PzC/PzB titles have plenty of smaller scenarios so that consideration can be discarded.  Wink

RE: Decisions, Decisions
Thanks guys for your superb advice, I've narrowed it down to El Alamein '42 or Stalingrad '42 (Lately, I've been enjoying reading Glantz & House's "When Titans Clashed", so the Eastern Front is starting to take on a shine to me as well) Oh, if only I had a big pile of extra cash lying around, and I could buy them all, but oh well ;-D

All of the PzC Eastern Front titles have been upgraded to the superb "Gold Version" (Improved graphics and sound effects, new units and scenarios, etc.) so you can't go wrong in choosing any of these games!  Wink

RE: Decisions, Decisions
I have not played Stalingrad much (lost my disk) but I really have enjoyed El Alamein-lots of attacking scenarios for both sides and a lot of balanced scenarios..

Based on your listed options, I'd hold off until the rest of the Gold series is released and/or wait for the release of PzB 3.

You may find after seeing all of the new releases that your interest may change.

Out of the 4 titles you listed, I don't think you'll see enough tank action in Sealion.  It has been several years since I played it however, I recall the game having alot of Fallschirmjäger and Home Guard type of units; not many tanks.

I am 100% sure that whatever JTS title you end up selecting, you will be very happy with it.

Good Luck!

RE: Decisions, Decisions
If i  need recomend you a title from your list if you dont have problems to wait maybe PzB-NA41 because has all you are looking for and as bonus you have the Krete battle , i am waiting it to but the type of battles is going to cover (in PzC titles offer relative small actions) and with the experience in PzB1 and PzB2 is the best option for you BUT if you cant wait and want play now PzC France40 is the best in your buy list even when obviously french are going to offer the core of the armor from the allied side.

Other titles you can explore using your preferences are:

-PzC North Africa titles, Tunis43 maybe for me is the best of the 3 titles but this is because i never like a lot the excesive presence of mines in El-Alamein even when you have a superb mod for this title to add Compass battles... Tobruk advantage over Tunis is that allied core is british troops (and empire troops) while in Tunis you need dance a lot to with yankees.... but again, to cover 40-41 period PzB-NA41 is for me a better option because scale help you have a more detailed OOB.

-PzB Normandy: i recommend if over PzB Kursk because offer more variety and even when i usually prefer east over west front Kursk is maybe one of the battles less i like when i play game but again USA army is a very important component.

-PzC Market Garden maybe is the PzC title where you can find british and armor in good numbers but i allways think PzB scale is better to represent the battle.

Are more titles that are very good but maybe these are closer to your preferences... for example PzC Budapest45 is now unique because no more 1945 titles are avaliable, only in Squad battles, and you play with a totally different german army and you depend to of Hungarian troops.

But in the end every title has his own attractive... well, not all, PzC Sealion never attract me a lot maybe because lacks more "what if" like add extra nations (an italian expeditionary army for axis and something like this for allies... USA, Canadian troops and even more units formed with soldiers from defeated nations).

PD: be carefull, Tiller games are like Pokemons, when you have one you are going to need them all  Rolling Eyes
