Steam and win 10 laptop

I have a steam account on my desk top (win 7).

I just bought a laptop with win 10.

I downloaded steam but i can't log in on the initial log in.

Says it does not recognize my account information.

I have googled and looked at Steam forums and i can't find a solution.

Now I am worried if I update my desk top to win 10........will I have the same problem.

Steam recognizes a new device trying to use an existing account, usually uses a confirmation query via email or SMS to confirm the new device is really you and not an account hack.
