Queston about making my own scenarios
Good Morning to you all. I'm not new to PZC, but trying my hand at creating my own scenarios at the moment. I have some questions for the more experienced guys.

I would like to give an example. I'm thinking about making a scenario of  the fourth battle for Kharkow in August 1943. I know exchanging maps between two PZC games isn't possible, so I would like to use the large Kharkow map in Kharkow 43. Am I right when I say that it is possible to create a new OOB in Kharkow 43, creating new units and using the unit icons from other PZC games, like for instance Korsun 44?

Another question. I own PZC Normandy and would like to make a new setup for the German side, not for the Allied side. I'm removing all German units one by one from the map, in order to be able to place them on the empty map and a different location. Is there a way to remove all German units in one go?

Thank you in advance for your help.

RE: Queston about making my own scenarios
Hi Aragorn

Welcome to the Blitz.

Yes, you can easily create a new OOB in any of the PzC games, and grab unit images, and other stuff from other games. Presumably, you will have new unit types in the later dated game, although maybe not too many. In order to use the new unit types for multiple units, you need to save the unit type after setting up the new type for a unit. The Ok button will simply add the unit to the OOB, using Save, it will save the unit type details and make it available for further use.

If you are starting with essentially no allied units on map, as I would expect, then it is easy to remove all of the German units. To do so, open your source scenario file in an editor like Notepad or Wordpad. Look for the lines near the beginning starting with 1 ….. These will be near the top of the file, after header type information. Here is an example:

France_Holland_Inundations.map
France_Prucha.oob
France_Prucha.pdt
1 2 316 105190 16 16 208 0 0 64 0
1 2 319 105119 16 16 504 0 0 16777280 0 105120 105121 105122 -1
1 3 317 105188 16 16 208 0 0 64 0
1 3 317 105189 16 8 208 0 0 64 0
…..
1 427 385 163408 16 16 546 0 0 16777280 0 163409 163410 -1
1 427 386 123595 32 32 546 0 0 16777280 0 123596 123597 -1
2 1940 5 10 4 100 0 0 1 242 45 1
145138 1 1 95 0 0 0 0
2 1940 5 10 4 100 0 0 1 226 56 1
145135 1 1 190 0 0 0 0

There are a few more lines before the text lines above, but this will get you to the correct point. You want to delete all of the lines that start with the 1 information, and stop at the 2 …. lines. This will delete all of the on map units. Save the file back - be sure the extension doesn't change, or manually rename the file back to end with scn.

Also, be sure to save your scenario with a different name - otherwise you won't be able to share with others without them losing the default version, and also an update to the game could overwrite your version.

RE: Queston about making my own scenarios
Hi Rick,

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and sorry for my late reply. I'm going to try all this out and will let you know how it went.

Pity the WW 1 and WW 2 games are different, so I can't build WW 2 units in Tannenberg 1914. Would be great.

One more quesiton, Rick. I take it that the values for the same unit in two different PZC games are the same? So the same soft and hard attack and such?

RE: Queston about making my own scenarios
Until i know you can create WWII units in the WWI serie, the OOB tool is the same, even appear abilities from WWII titles like Jat planes but not WWIII like thermal sights.

You only need use values from WWII units to have them in the WWI title like increase defensive value and soft-hard attacks.

But is true that cavalry works very different compared with WWII titles... here cavalry is to much in melee and is not going to work like pure mounted infantry like in PzC.

Not necesary, values could be very different front one PzC title to other, think in hard attacks in a german unit in France40 VS Budapest45

Take a regular army motorized infantry unit, even in same title if are more than 1 OOB avaliable values could be totally different between them, you can create the OOB you want or need as you wish.

France 40:
(Prucha OOB) Hard attack 2/0 Soft attack 8/1
(McNamara OOB) Hard attack 2/0 Soft attack 11/1

Budapest45:
Hard attack 5/1 Soft attack 11/1

OFF-TOPIC: I allways think the FWW engine is a good one to cover wars between both world wars like Spanish civil war thanks to the arty plotting system and now even FWW has the advantage of special abilties for mountain units, not only cosmetic NATO icon.

Hi Aragorn

Not necessarily, although the Gold games standardize the ratings much more than the original games. In the Gold, actually, they may be consistent, but I haven't dug in that deep.

RE: Queston about making my own scenarios
After experimenting around in the OOB and the editor for some weeks, I have another question. Is it possible to change the strength and values for a certain opponent, let's say for the Russian Mot Rifle Bn (TkBde) and at the same time adjust all same opponents to those values/strength? I've tried the Components tab, but can't figure it out. Please advise.

RE: Queston about making my own scenarios
First, edit a unit of the type you want to change.
Make your changes and choose Save.
Then go to Components and choose Update Unit Value. This will update all units of that type with your changes.

However, I am not positive a strength change will flow through to all units of that type - but try it and see.

Yes, that works, Rick. Thank you! Saves me a lot of work.
