One of the reasons why Vietnam has been taking so long as that we've completely revamped how HAL plays, making it a far more interesting opponent. Especially for those that like to replay a scenario. While a mammoth amount of work, I've been trying to ensure that each
company has three different options to choose from for any given scenario. For small scenarios, scripting that isn't too bad, but for these large ones with many divisions, it can take awhile to do, especially to make sure that the orders are being followed as planned.
Below is me watching an autotest of the Viet Minh moving through the orders. Of course, each autotest will have different results depending on how the die is rolled above so this gets repeated over and over to try and capture "all" the bugs.
This is the situation for the Viet Minh on turn 12. You can see how they are surrounding and capturing the hill positions... some successful, some stubborn.
Here is a couple turns later from the French perspective.
And finally another dozen turns later from the Viet Minh perspective. I can see some modifications are still required, the general plan has been abided by.
