BBC reports:
"Unexpected developments occuring in southern Transilvania as we speak. Axis cautious advance towards the town of Sibin has been met with hasty Soviet counterattack. The Russians clearly decided to bring the battle to their enemy and clashed with advancing Hungarians and Germans in series of bloody battles around the so called Simnic Road. Results vary with localized axis victories, yet Soviet sources claim Axis attacks were effectively cancelled and brought to a halt.

In other news: Soviets announce the start of two strategic offensives in the north, aiming at securing large portions of the Baltic coast, as well as key city of Riga. SHAEF reports that all objectives of so called "Operation Dragoon" has been achieved throughout last two months. Important development close to Transilvanian front: 1st Hungarian Armoured Division has been repulsed around Paulis by Romanian determined resistance. Allied attack towards Rimini aided by capture of the important town of Coriano. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recorded the third highest water level of Woods Hole, MA at 1.488 meters (...)

Dagens Nyheter reports:
"Massive airstrikes have been seen today in southern Transylvania, as first time since ever Soviet Air Force makes its presence over these Hungarian-claimed lands. Earlier, back in 1941, the town of Kolozsvar (Kosice in Slovakian) were bombed, what effectively pushed Hungary into the war with Soviet Union. Anyway, it seems that Axis forces are seen retreating up north - perhaps the Soviet Air Force finally do the tipping? Bad news also come for the Allies, as Soviet colonel Ivan Khokhlov, effectively in command of 202nd Rifle Division is reported to have been killed in one of the strikes...

In other news: Major political development occurs in Finland. Apparently, German beach attack on the finnish Suursaari island has been utterly beaten what sprang the hostilities between Finland and Nazi Germany. Is this a start of the new war?
German frogmen carried out a successful raid on the floodgates at Antwerp and rendered the port unusable to the Allies for six weeks. Allied Command claims town of Gemmano in Italy captured. In the Pacific theatre, it is said that Allies commenced landings on the small island of Peleliu, as well as on the island of Morotai in the Maluku Islands. The French provisional government in Paris said it would try Vichy war criminals and issued warrants for the arrests of Philippe Pétain and his cabinet.
The Great Atlantic Hurricane makes landfall on Long Island and Rhode Island.
The Battle of Meligalas between the Greek People's Liberation Army and the Security Battalions ends. Captive Security Battalionists are said to be massacred by the Greek Communists.

"Series of woodland battles erupted today in Northern Transylvania. Soviet forces seem to be pushing Axis forces further to the north. It seems that xis no longer enjoys any significant gains. Is it possible that now the Soviet operational goal in the region is to free both Turda and regional capital, Cluj-Napoca...

In other news: The Soviet 3rd Ukrainian Front occupies the Bulgarian capital of Sofia. The Second Quebec Conference ends, no official statements are released to the public. In accordance with a call from the Danish National Council in London, workers in Denmark went on strike starting at noon to protest the transfer of about 190 Danish political prisoners to Germany. The strike mostly affects the transportation system. Hitler is said to have made decision concerning German offensive capabilities in the near future, yet no further details are available.

"On the contraty to the recent developments in the Western Europe, 17th seems to rather quiet on the Transylvanian front. Both sides seem to reorganize and prepare for further action. Soviet troops are said to be standing right outside Vintu de Jos, right outside regional important town of Alba Iulia. Some serious developments might occur in the near future, yet all eyes are currently focused on Holland...

In other news: Allies announce the beginning of Operation Market Garden when Allied paratroopers land in the Netherlands and Germany. The Battle of Arnhem begins in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, the 3rd Canadian Division begins Operation Wellhit to take the fortified town of Boulogne in northern France. Back in Holland, 30,000 Dutch rail workers obey a call from General Eisenhower to go on strike to paralyze the German transport system in the country. Many of the workers go into hiding. Allies also declare success of Operation Paravane against the German battleship Tirpitz, disabling her and causing the Germans to tow her south to Tromsø. The Battle of San Marino begins in the Italian Front, as well as Soviet launch Tallinn Offensive. Far in the Pacific, the Battle of Angaur begins between U.S. and Japanese forces in the island of Angaur in the Palau Islands. Roughly at the same time, the Japanese escort carrier Un'yō is torpedoed and sunk in the South China Sea by the American submarine Barb. London celebrates as blackout restrictions are relaxed in London.
