OPORD Those Dam Yankees
Situation: After the costly recon by force into the German ski resort ended with limited success, NATO forces were forced to pull back for rest and resupply. This retreat has opened up a corridor of opportunity for the Soviet Taskforce Ivan Drago (TF I.D.) to capture the German town of Muhlberg and more importantly the dam and water reservoir in proximity of the town. It is late December but unseasonably warm at 22C. This could explain the haze in the air. The dam is defended by an outfielder unit reported as Task Force Rocky, which intel reports has gone from last place to first in their Divisions Baseball league almost overnight.
Mission: TF I.D. shall conduct an attack under the cover of dawn on the approach of the dam, then push on into the town itself. Expect dug in defences as these yankees had the luck of the devil and spotted TF I.D. on its approach. The dam is split between the primary dam and a smaller spillway retainer. Both have road access, but the spillway is exposed and of less tactical value. The dam proper has access trenches for when the western made hydroelectric systems get installed. It also has telephone and electrical poles that might resemble trees on a map. TF I.D. has 45min to complete this task before complete daylight and NATO reserves can respond.
Service and Support: Air support is authorized; Arty is authorized including pre-planned strikes. No Naval support is available due to still replacing losses from the Battle of Tsushima. Though spotted on the approach Intel confirms that TF Rocky has not had time to arrange pre-planned arty, though it is suspected they are in the process of arranging support for the battle itself. NATO air support is active in this operational zone, but unknown if any will be directed to this engagement due to pilot shortages for Christmas Leave.
Command and Signal: TF I.D.'s one up will be monitoring the battle via radio in his commandeered luxury suite. This limits control to 45mins as he'll be too drunk by then to give any coherent orders, though he did state at the Division planning meeting that he was having pits in the ground dug for any soldiers unable to carry out his duties during the attack. Intel reports that TF Rocky's command will be located somewhere in the operational zone who is identified as Major J.Hardy. With light jamming of their radios, this NATO TF is known to use an extensive vocabulary of hand signals to communicate. Due to a logistical error, the rations received for TF I.D. are from WW1, so soldiers are expect to scavenge the town for their next meal. It is suspected the NATO local supply cache is flush with plump hotdogs and steamed buns. Packets of Kubansky will be issues along with ammo to use as a condiment.
