Map
I've got COTA and the maps are excellent. COTA can also read HTTR maps. I've done a little test and have imported a few height values into CMAK. I'll write the full program next week to read a COTA map and extract the height data. There will probably be problems but the height data can be imported without any modifications apart from scaling. This will create a file approx 7.5 MB in size for a 35 by 30 approx map.

As CM is tile based and COTA/HTTR are not, extracting a lot of the other data is pointless. Tree, building, bridges, airfields and other objects are ok to extract for CM but the roads and rivers ect are not (CM is limited in how you can create a map). You could extract a percentage in order to help place the tiles in CM. I'll need help in placing these features.

I'll be using Map Converter to import the maps into CM. You cannot import a 35 by 30 map but you can cut a 2x2, 4x4 etc and import into CM.

You could use one of these maps in a campaign without the need to use a qb map. As for CMC, I'm not sure if you can use custom maps in CMC.

As other players are creating COTA maps for other areas this could prove useful for CM.

COTA is an excellent wargame. If any of you play it I'm up for a campaign or battle.

RE: Map
This is the homepage of Conquest Of The Aegean http://cota.matrixgames.com/ and the homepage of Highway To The Reich http://www.highwaytothereich.com/main.asp

I think if you can get the terrain height correct and a few of the objects then you should be on the way to creating a decent map. If you view the created file as a matrix then you could cut any size map you want, 2x2, 4x2, 4x4. Obviously in CM too large a map would have a negative impact on game play. If you played a campaign on one of the maps it would not be difficult to calculate the next map.

If you use this with the program to list units at the end of a battle then you are on your way to a campaign system. Lots of revisions would be needed but it would work with CMBO, CMBB and CMAK.

For example if a bridge was destroyed, you could alter the master map to reflect this. If the participating players decided that a bridge had been held long enough and repaired then it could be put back. If a building is blow to bits then you could change the building in the master map to rubble. So, if the battle goes back over you would see some sort of continuity.

I stopped working on this because CMC was on its way but CMC maybe a while.

A system could be up and running in a few weeks but you never know what Santa may bring (CMC).
