64 bit Vista and PzC
I can see from earlier threads that PzC can run on Vista, but does it make any difference if it is 64 bit or 32 bit Vista ?

I will be getting a new computer soon and I have the choice of 32 or 64 bit Vista so I want to make sure I get the one that actually works with PzC

Thanks for any information you can provide.

A quick chat with Rich at HPS about this could save you a lot of hassle. :chin:

RE: 64 bit Vista and PzC
Kharkov, I am almost afraid to type this out since I am sure most of my challenges have been due to my own stupidity. I recently upgraded, a little over a week ago, to a new machine with Vista 64. I have had little to no issues with my PzC games with one exception, Danube 85 is driving me crazy. I am not sure what I have done wrong but gamefile saving has become a nightmare. I have reinstalled twice now and still seem to have challenges. In all honesty, this could be due to my own stupidity but I have not had any issues with the other systems. One nice feature that Vista 64 offers is a simple compatability wizard which allows you to dumb down the operating system for individual programs. For example, you can dumb down from vista to Windows XP, 2000, etc. Anyway, best of luck, it seems to work fine except for my one glitch I have listed.

P.S. No, I have not sent a query to HPS yet. I started typing an email to them and it become so convoluted that I just quit! :hissy:

While I can't add anything to help you here, I would say that Danube Front has nothing different in it that would single out this game to be different than any others. All the code is common when John builds a new game exe so any patches released since D85 came out would be the same as D85 with whatever additions were made since that title came out.

Now it could be that Windows remembers something different and repeats it WRT to this title - no idea really. But as fould said, the best place to go with whatever the details are would be Rich Hamilton at HPS Support.

RE: 64 bit Vista and PzC
i don't know if this can help, but with my new laptop (windows Vista), i' ve had many problems when i install an HPS Title to C:/Program files/HPS Simulation/
but when i put the "HPS Simulations" Folder directly under the root directory everything is ok now (install to C:/HPS Simulations/Minsk '44 for example)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've heard nothing but problems with Vista from everybody I know that as it. Sounds like a bunch of corporate garbage to rush something that wasn't ready to try and justify their high salary positions. Microsoft should be ashamed to have put out such a crappy product.

Thanks to everybody for your helpful replies.

I must admit that I am now wondering whether it is really worthwhile to move to Vista at all, or just stick with XP.

Bill,
My girlfriend has to use Vista at work and although she is experienced on XP she says without the help of the dept. IT person she would just be at a total loss how to do/fix most things!

It seems to me the only people who get Vista are the ones who don't know what they are letting themselves in for. :chin:

RE: 64 bit Vista and PzC
I guess the question I would ask is, "What do I gain by going to Vista"?
I will need more memory, learn everything over again, but do I gain anything?

RE: 64 bit Vista and PzC
Vista has a good system restore. I use it often :bang:, really. Download important updates, then system resets and resets and resets and resets .....the I restore to before the update.
