The Advantage Slide
I have no idea why I have not asked this question before :chin:
When you start a game, in that area where you decide upon the options (fog of war, assault, etc.) there is a slide that you can move to favor either the Axis or the Allies.
I always thought this slide applied to contests versus AI, but since it appears when I start a PBEM game, I am wondering if it has any effect
I've never moved this slide and simply left it in the middle.
Does it have an effect in PBEM games and if so, is your opponent notified of the fact that you have moved the slide?
Thanks,
Pat

RE: The Advantage Slide
Well I just tried it, and you sure can slide it. Somewhere in my memory from Talonsoft days is playing with the slide when setting up a PBEM game and seeing a flag saying that advantage is always set to zero during a PBEM game.......which made great sense to me then, and still does. It then went straight to the "don't need to consider this again" part of my memory...never gave the slide it another thought until today.
A quick check of my old EFII manual does indicate that the slide does work for PBEM. However, the top menu bar A/I box will advise the state of advantage, and if one tries to move it, a caption appears on the bottom of the screen saying Advantage cannot be changed during Special Modes. Which was probably the flag I saw and remembered. But one had better remember to check it.
This is a very good point, Pat.

RE: The Advantage Slide
Appreciate the information "Old Sailor Man",
I checked as you had and discovered that you cannot move the slide once a game has started.
However, I set up a PBEM game moving the slide to favor one side and noticed that did work. If one accesses A/I from the drop down menu it shows the slides position.
I wonder what effects the "advantage" has? Perhaps it's better kill percentages?
I haven't seen this questioned asked before, so would appreciate some input from someone familiar with the program.
Thank you once again Rod,
Pat

RE: The Advantage Slide
From the manual
The Advantage Bar at the bottom of the AI Selection screen allows you to balance play between two players of unequal skill or to balance play against the AI. To set an Advantage, hold down the left mouse button over the slider Bar control and move it to the left or right (the keyboard’s arrow keys can also be used to adjust the advantage). Advantage values can range from 0 to 100 for
either side. Depending on the value you set, the side with an advantage will inflict higher than normal combat losses on the other side and suffer lower than normal combat losses themselves.
Advantage must be set before play begins in E-Mail, Modem Play, and Two-Player Hot Seat games.
Otherwise, the Advantage can be adjusted at any time during the game.

RE: The Advantage Slide
Thank you Junk2drive,
That answers all the questions except whether your opponent is notified that the slide has been utilized?

RE: The Advantage Slide
No it does not.
I started the game. Picked scenario, pbem, new. Pick save name, move slider, ok, exit. Pick scenario, pbem, resume, pick save file. No warning.

RE: The Advantage Slide
I think you have to click on that drop-down menu for AI and it will show you where the slide is set.
We now have the notification of "saves", perhaps we need one for the "Slide"?

RE: The Advantage Slide
Wow. I can remember tons of threads on cheating, but I don't remember anyone mentioning that slider. I don't think I've ever checked it either, when receiving a pbem. Definately something Jason Petho and the Matrix boys should address.

RE: The Advantage Slide
It certainly opens a whole new can of worms?
Never thought of checking that in my games. I also thought it only applied to games played vs the A1.
Without casting aspersions on anyone, doesn't this cast doubts regarding the ladder results?
