H2H Testing: RUSSIAN STAND AT ZHLOBIN
RUSSIAN STAND AT ZHLOBIN
Zhlobin, on the west bank of the Dneiper, 7 July 1941
With it's still intact bridge was a prime objective for the Germans under Guderian's command.
The attempt to clear this Russian bridgehead along the Dneiper River on 6 July failed after a German tank battalion was ambushed, losing 20 tanks as it approached Zhlobin. It became apparent to Guderian that the Russians were formed up and preparing defenses up and down the central front and supplies from Warsaw were not fulfilling his Corps needs. In the northern suburbs of Zhlobin, with the Dneiper River on their left flank, the Germans will assault the fortified Soviet defenders.
