In reading the user manual, it appears to me that the ONLY test for resupplying when using the explicit supply rule is whether the unit being resupplied is in the supply unit's range and the supply unit is not in travel mode.

I can't help wondering: When using the explicit supply rule, does the HQ unit even figure into the question of supply any more?

Here's my take on Explicit Supply:

Unit shoots, there's a 20% chance that they need to draw supplies from a valid supply unit at the beginning of the very next turn. If they can't, then they're low on ammo.

Unit moves, then at midnight there's a 20% chance that it needs to draw supplies from a valid supply unit. If it can't, then it's low on fuel.

In either event, any unit that is low on ammo or on fuel may resupply at the beginning of any future turn, so long as they are within range of a valid supply unit.

So Glenn, when playing with explicit supply rules, is it fair to say that the only function HQ units have is their affect on Disruption recovery?

Off hand I can't say for certain. A HQ will be used for ANY Command check except of course any that are no longer made for supply - that includes Disruption recovery, but is that all there is? Not sure - best left for the rules lawyers.

In any case if you find something happening in a game file with Exp Supply ON which you feel shouldn't be happening, let me know.

Nope, haven't observed anything weird, just making sure that I have a handle on these explicit supply rules. It's been hard for me to shake free from my deeply-ingrained tendency to worry about the range of units from their HQ.

One other function that HQs still perform is to keep units in the chain of command, i.e. not detached, which comes in handy for calling in full value artillery support.

So in the end it pays to keep your units in command range regardless of which supply model you use, so continue to worry about that. Big Grin

Yes, BUT your units that are not in command can still be resupplied, if a supply unit is nearby. This is a major difference from the default or the VST rules.
