New PC monitor
Hello,

I'm looking into getting a larger PC monitor and junk this old 17inch Trinatron thats the size of a small fridge.I'm wondering will a bigger screen like a 23 or 24 inch just make the game/units look bigger or will I see a larger overall view of the map?Which is what I would much prefer.Any suggestions on monitors would be great...

Thanks.

RE: New PC monitor
You'll see a larger view of the map. You'll love it. Hi-Def flat screen. Mine at home is 22 inch and 24 at work. Prices are really low nowadays too and supposed to go lower throughout this year, according to the local news here just yesterday.

Your resolution now is probablly 1024x768. When you get your new one you'll want to set that higher and in a hi-def ratio. When the time comes, let us know if you need help setting that.

Also, if your computer is older, check to see what video ports you have. Ideally HDMI or DVI ports to plug the monitor into. If you don't have I'd recommend updating your video card as well, rather than using an adapter.

Cheers Dragoon,

Have a look at this DAR: https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards...?tid=57814

I've taken screen captures from my monitor, running a 1920:1080 resolution. The pictures are using the Normal view (e.g TURN 5), and Zoom-out view (e.g. TURN 8).

As you can see, the Zoom-out view is just great, giving you a wide view of the battle front with still enough detail to be able to use it. The Normal view is quite big as well.

I have a very basic 24" HD from LG. I am very happy with it. If you pay more, you propably get even a better experience.

Hope this helps.

Oh much, much more of the map...

Go with Dave's advice... A good video card is definitely a plus...

I went with a 27" LCD HDTV Monitor from Samsung not too long ago... But there are plenty of 23-27" choices that are great deals and quality products... Samsung makes 23, 25 and 27" monitors which are nice... I looked hard at the HP's as well and they look good... I had a 21" HP LCD monitor for years that is still a good piece of equipment... Recently, my son-in-law purchased a nice ASUS 23" monitor...

To be honest, I'm just addicted to the flat screens... the picture quality is great and I have on occasion hooked my laptop up to the 52" LCD in the living room... the flat screens are so much easier to move around than the old CRT's...

Good luck with the monitor hunt...

Jim

With a 27" monitor you can propably play using the Zoom-out view? No need to use Normal view apart from checking details?

RE: New PC monitor
I'm stuck with a 21" flat panel (wide screen) that pivots vertical (for example if you want to view a full legal size document page) and split that with the laptop display on my desk (to have two work spaces). Cheap and worth the change if you're not wanting to splurge on a larger unit.

EDIT: by default I use level 1 and level 4 views predominantly and then 5 and the "jump" map for overall views (I guess that says I play large scenarios mostly).
