Well, historically the Germans did leave it practically naked -- its garrison division even left it to act as a covering force around Nancy. I have no doubt that the static garrison within could hold off any assault that lacked siege guns. ;)

In any case, feel free to create a variant that puts several thousand points there, but by August 22nd I just did not feel that there was any emphasis in that area, other than a prolonged siege at best. I do have a plan to (eventually) make a campaign that begins sooner, in the mobilization phase, where Metz would have some value - but I am just formulating at at the moment.

It occurred to me that one way of doing without expanding the map eastwards would be to let mobilized units drop onto the map as some French and German reinforcements in the Moltke Indecision scenario. If you want to include strategic or operation surprise (making it out of control for the player) the surprising force can be dropped in first.

I would welcome a campaign game that begins with mobilization or on the day war was declared. I realize it would entail a lot of "staff work" but oh, the possibilities. For one thing, one could verify that the Germans HAD to invade Belgium, or at least, Luxembourg to have any chance of defeating France.

Nothing quite like a 780 turn game! I can't wait! Big Grin:)

Yeah, that is the idea. It would basically start with the invasion of Liege, and the Germans would have two or three strategy/operations to choose from as their invasion plan. The Allies would also have several plans to choose from (Plan XVII, Plan XVII before modified, Plan XVI etc), and the BEF could have several places to choose from arriving at as well. Metz and areas in Ardennes would have lots of points, and the French could choose to conduct offensive to win a sudden death early victory (as a house rule for example, sudden death Allied victory if they ever reach the Major Victory level at any time).

Oh well, that is a side project I am working on anyway. Such a campaign would be a lot of admin and marching as stated, but it would be nice alternative to the current "instant action" campaign. If it ever gets finished to the point of being worth playing then don't worry, it will make its appearance in a future F14 update. :)

Ed,

please put all your energy and power into Tannenberg. I see a battle/game there who is even
better than F'14.

I am waiting for it in great awe! :)

Well, who knows which FWWC title the future will bring. Tannenberg is on the list, sure, but you won't get any hints from me on which one is next. Big Grin

Tannenberg as well as a mobilization campaign (with different warplans) for France 1914 would be totally awsome.

If Tannenberg and F 14 were linked so the German player could decide if/what units to send east, That would be awesome!
