And while I think the rule is great for making operational planning a bit more realistic, I am a bit concerned how the rule affects scenario balance of PzC titles that were released before the rule.
I am correct that the rule is hard coded right? Not optional?
Who suffers most from this rule?:
- The side with the lower quality units, usually the Soviet player
- The side that needs to achieve and exploit breakthroughs at the start of the game (the Soviets in Korsun 44)
- The side with the most mobile reserves/fire brigades (usually the German player)
- The side with the least adequate lines of communication behind the front.
Now, as can be judged from above points, it is not clear cut as to how this rule will affect scenario balance, but I am pretty sure it actually wil.
I don't know if possible, but would it be an idea to have the rule as an optional rule so competitive players can still play the old scenarios without having to worry about altered balance by this rule?
Night disruption only works if the scenario designer includes a percentage parameter in the PDT file to check against.
If the value is 0 then the rule is not in play. Unless modders go back and change the older games, a new rule like night disruption will not be in effect.
John Tiller is very careful not to introduce enhancements that break prior games & scenarios. He usually builds safeguards (like the above) so that the old games play as intended, but can also ultimately be updated if any so wish to.
