Quizzes and ladder points issue
People get ladder points for answering questions in the two Quiz threads.
Weasel is the quiz moderator and I told him I don't like it because nobody should get precious ladder points just for answering questions, as it's not fair on real ladder players, and devalues the ladders.
He replied that he and some other Blitz moderators don't agree with me, and that he'll continue giving ladder points for answering quiz questions.
Maybe somebody should start a poll to find out what members want?..:)

RE: Quizzes and ladder points issue
Thanks spike for bringing this topic up to us and letting us know how you feel about it.
We have had past conversations about how to deal with the quizzes and rewards points
We are now in the very beginning stages of reevaluating it again.
If you have any suggestions or any more comments on how we can make things better, please feel free to post them in the forum board or via email.
Thanks Again.

It IS a fair point made by PoorOldSpike...
does there need to be a "reward" at all?
If there are "rewards" should moderators be eligible?
What happens with those "inactive" on the ladder?
just a few of thoughts.

Why wouldn't a moderator get bonus points? Do you think we have some way of knowing what the answer to the question is through a crystal ball, we do the same as everyone else, research.

RE: Quizzes and ladder points issue
My earlier post was just random thoughts/questions - prompting conversation. I certainly did not mean to cause offence! (certainly on forums where I am a moderator any 'not-just-for-fun' stuff is not open to mods)
Why not have a Quiz ladder?
points only from quizzes, etc - has no bearing on any other ladder, everyone can take part (mods, inactive players, etc).
could lead to more interest in the quizzes and/or expansion with other quizzes or military puzzles.

Yeah, quizzes are open to mods just like everybody else, nothing wrong with that..:)
My only beef is that there are a bunch of guys fighting their guts out in the ladder jungles to get precious ladder points which are as valuable as gold dust, so for ladder points to be awarded to anybody simply for getting quiz questions right doesn't seem right to me.
Getting a question right is fun and rewarding enough in itself without getting points for it..:)
And consider this- I haven't played a ladder game for months because i'm currently involved with flight simming and Arma2, so technically I'm not a Blitz ladder player at the moment yet I'm still able to rack up ladder points for quiz questions, which doesn't seem fair on genuine ladder players and I feel guilty!
For example I'm currently 4th on the Overall CMx2:Modern Battles ladder with 602 points, and the guy above me in 3rd place is currently on 673 points.
Quiz questions score 5 points each, so if I get one correct each week, I'll have scored a total of 75 points over the next 15 weeks and will overtake the guy above me by the end of May if his score stays about the same.
And if I keep getting questions correct for the rest of the year, I'll keep climbing the ladder and probably overtake more guys even though I won't have played any ladder games!
That's why I suggest that NO points should be awarded for quiz questions, as it's simply not fair on genuine ladder players..:)

RE: Quizzes and ladder points issue
Thank you for your thoughts and opinions however, after consideration it was decided to keep things as-is.
Not too long ago, we did attempt to stop awarding points for answering quizzes, and that almost forced us to discontinue all of the quiz sections due to a lack of interest and participation.
Because of this outcome, we decided to go back to awarding points.
You brought up some valid points however, it appears that 98% of the other guys who are also active in the quiz sections do enjoy receiving points.
In the future, if you or anyone else would not like to receive points for quizzes, and just "play for fun", let Weasel know and he could discontinue to award you your quiz points.

Which is exactly why the original decision when the quiz areas were created was to award ladder points. You are participating in the club, visiting the site and an active member of the blitz community even though you are not currently playing any games hosted here.
What is wrong with that? Another member kept engaged in the club. Mission accomplished, even though he seems to have not accepted our sneaky way of keeping him engaged. Oh, how bad I feel now!
Compass Rose is right, No one will stop you from forfeiting the quiz points if you wish to do so. Just let the quiz moderator know that is what you want.
