corps attachment

corps attachment
I'm a bit confused about corps attachment and how it works.

I have two detached units in the Tata scenario for Budapest 45.  They belong to the 52 Pioneer brigade, but they are not attached to any HQ in the scenario, based on the fact that their unit title is yellow.  That said, the scenario indicates that I have a corps attachment available and I'm not sure what this means exactly?

  • Does this mean I need to attach those detached units to a "on the field" HQ? and if so, I can't seem to even figure out how to do this?
  • Does this mean I can attach the higher HQ, in this case, IV Pzr corps, to another higher HQ?
  • What exactly am I doing here?

What does this mean when I have this "corps attachment" available and how do I use it effectively?

That is my basic question, as I'm looking at the "Corps attachment" dialogue and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do?

Thanks,

RE: corps attachment
Difficult to answer in detail as I don't have B45, but when I have used the corps attachment feature in the past I was attaching whole divisions to corps rather than individual units which I am guessing you cant do?

Is it possible that the HQ arrives as a reinforcement? I had that situation in a Sicily scenario.

Thanks for trying to help.

What am I doing here?  What does this mean and what is gained by doing whatever it is I'm supposed to do?  That's what I'm confused about? I have no context as to why I'm doing what I'm doing? and I don't understand what Div I'm even assigning to what corps? I've randomly selected various attachable organization and attached them to various corps? but I have no idea what the result of said attachment is?

That's where I'm stuck, I'm trying to understand the context and the point of even going to this attachment dialogue and using it?

RE: corps attachment
So, as I understand it, on the left you have a list of divisions with their current attachments. For example, Leibstandarte is currently attached to 1ss Pz. Corps. If you want to change that division's attachment, you would click on it and click on one of the available corps level units on the left and then click ok. Only the divisions on the left side can be reattached, and only to corps level attachments on the right side. The user manual shows how to do this in detail.

The point would be if you wanted to move a division to somewhere else on the map. Moving it to a corps headquarters in the area you want it to go to will improve your chances of being in command, in supply etc., as these calculations are all based on the distance from the next higher assigned headquarters.

All, please chime in if I have explained this incorrectly.

RE: corps attachment
I believe that coves it. The idea is to either attach to the nearest corps HQ, in many cases - or it could be that you have a corps with a lot of artillery and you want that to be able to support the division so you may attach on that basis, although I would expect the corps HQ to be nearby also.

RE: corps attachment
I actually figured it out. I had a friend who patiently explained the point of the exercise and command radius of those Divisional hqs that did not have on map corps level hqs. That was the missing piece for me.

On map vs off map and how those commands abstractions are handled.
