In this version the dynamics change. The Spanish and British can attack from the outset. This - in hindsight - gave the allies an advantage not present in the fixed scenario where they have to defend for a longer time.
Opponent chose to attack Talavera rather than the open British position, and that was probably a mistake in hindsight.

Most of the French forces arrive from the eastern edge of the map on the first day. The majority of the cavalry arrives from the southern edge of the map. The French commander has to make a decision when reaching the crossroad north of the bridge: move on the British forces or attempt to take the town. I decided to try and take the town; bad idea. I would not recommend trying an assault on the town, it has high walls and is surrounded by difficult terrain making it easy to defend. I thought with them numerous gates it would be easier to take, but man was I wrong. To make matters more difficult in trying to take the town you have to protect your flank from British attacks from the North. My opponent is correct in saying my attempt to attack Talavera was a mistake.

French forces are well balanced with some lower quality forces arriving later along with some guard units. The French Dragoons are good quality and numerous. Be very careful about protecting supplies. The French get numerous supplies with one group arriving with no escorts.
