The Austrians failed to seize the castle hill with their first-move assault, so this little battle become a sort of positional one. The French stayed up the castle hill with their batteries in position. The Austrians on the other hand lost their artillery and barricated themselves inside the village, but kept the French at bay with the menace of a cavalry charge. In the end both sides were unable to wrestle the opponent from its position.
