The French attempted a pre-emptive attack on the central Austrian columns but due to the greater battalion sizes of the Austrians this came to grief leading to a major battery being overrun.
The French are well advised in my opinion to be cautious initially and await their forces concentrating and being reinforced before striking the Austrian columns.
As usual in the Marengo series the terrain is tricky and makes line of sight and use of cavalry very challenging.

There is one part of this battle that is not well simulated. Thee Austrians had poor leaders and I suppose the French better ones. The reverse happened in this game> The french, poorly led where surprised by an extraordinary general in Devencop. He did the right things at the right time and showed how this can be won. Good opponent who is a great general ...
