My opponent chose to defend with the 3rd rather than evacuate, and made life very hard for the Germans. With a few turns to play a German brigade captured the southern most fort, and was crossing the river behind Liege, while the balance of the German force had isolated the eastern forts and was pressing the 1000 VP spot on the east side of the river. With 4 turns to go the Belgians yielded to humanity and surrendered the Fortress.
