The German center collapsed on Day 2 and Allied Mobile units exploited to the full extent possible. The Germans eventually stabilized the front lines, but at a much further position in land than was historically the case. Progress for the Allies was then slow but steady, creating small pockets and slowly grinding the Germans to dust. They surrendered an untenable position,
