July 3rd, 1863 1:00pm 24 Turns {alternative A/I} Lee's plan for the 3rd was brutally simple: unleash a terrific artillery bombardment on the Union center, then attack it with 15,000 men. If they could break through in force they were to wheel right and left to roll up both enemy flanks, and ideally the entire Union line would collapse. Ewell's Corps was to assist by renewing its attack on Culp's Hill. On the Union side, all Meade could do was wait and see what Lee had planned, but was confident that his men would prevail in any eventuality. On the previous night he had predicted that Lee would attack his center, but then changed his mind and strengthened his left flank. Time would soon tell what was about to transpire.
