April 6-7, 1862 91 Turns -----------------------[ What If ]----------------------- * The Campaign Game-- with a twist! * 6 AM, 6 April: Historically, Lew Wallace's 3rd Division, encamped about four miles north of Pittsburg Landing, did not arrive on the Shiloh battlefield until after 7 PM -- long after it was expected -- due mostly to a misunderstanding as to which route Grant wanted him to take. General Wallace was most familiar with the route to Shiloh along the "Shunpike", which crossed Snake Creek just west of Sherman's camps. It was upon this route that he originally started, but then had to backtrack and approach from the north along the "River Road", causing considerable delay. What if Lew Wallace had stayed on the Shunpike? Will his command be isolated when it arrives -- or smash into the Confederate left flank?
