September 19, 1863 10 Turns --------------------[ Historical ]--------------------- 3:30pm: Confederate Major General John Hood launches the last attack of the afternoon on the southern half of the battlefield against elements of various divisions from all three Union Corps. At several points along the line the Confederates achieve breakthroughs but are stopped by either massed artillery (near the Poe house) or withering fire from Spencer repeaters (west Viniard field). ------------------------------------------------------------- A straggler from Gregg's brigade to the 4th Texas as they moved up: "You fellers'll catch hell in thar! Them fellers out thar... ain't none of the blue-bellied, white-livered Yanks an' forrin hirelin's you have in Virginny that'll run at the snap of a cap - they are Western fellers, an' they'll mighty quick give you a bellyful o' fightin'"
