[Prek Klok, Route 4, Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam]:
[SIDE A][HIS][CSL]:

The Battle of Prek Klok II occurred on March 10, 1967, during Operation Junction City when American military forces were conducting a search and destroy operation against the Viet Cong (VC) forces in Tay Ninh Province west of the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon. During the course of the operation, there had already had a significant engagement in the Battle of Prek Klok I where a Viet Cong battalion nearly overran an American battalion, only to be saved by the superior firepower that could be brought to bear.

The following two weeks were relatively quiet and the search and destroy mission had become routine. While the operation was underway, the 2d/2d Infantry (Mechanized) were tasked with protecting the Main Supply Route, Route 4, through War Zone C. It did so by patrolling the highway during the day and bivouacking at various Artillery Fire Support Bases that were situated along the road. While bivouacked, the armoured personnel carriers of the mechanized battalion would be positioned around the perimeter, circling the wagons.

Just after dusk fell, the troops on the perimeter fired a "mad minute" to test their weapons and provide a show of force to the enemy. Ambush patrols and listening posts left the perimeter for their positions in the surrounding jungle. At about 2030, men of an A Company listening post to the east of the perimeter, while moving into position, reported seeing and engaging three Viet Cong with unknown results. the battalion was placed on 75 percent alert as preplanned artillery harassing fires continued. A wise move as the Viet Cong mortar fire came crashing down an hour later, signaling the start of an attack.

First - we played this HTH. This scenario was not likely tested HTH. The VC must maneuver smartly to avoid deadly US crossfires. The VC must conserve their strength. When in position, they must assault well massed & hope. Losses will be heavy - got to succeed early on. Those Firebases are great cover for the US infantry, but "hardware" units are vulnerable.
Points for losses are heavy for the US.
The Objective Pts. and Events Pts. scoring is a critical factor. It seems that Time of Possession of Objectives is paramount. Basically - get there, hold'em, and recovery any Obj's lost quickly. Scoring is delayed, and any actions are Events that greatly affect the Score.

v1.0, this is a great scenario played vs the AI, but unfortunately fails as a H2H scenario in its current state (IMO). My US forces lost the airstrip fairly early. Apparently, that right there is the game. The US held the firebase and CIDG camp throughout. Unlike the AI, my opponent picked his targets carefully (don't even dream of hanging on to the supply truck or the 105). They never retreat as they do in the AI game. Maybe the US player can try beefing up the airstrip, but it will mean weakening the firebase, so... dunno. Anyway, score was ~800 points into a major loss. Not even close. Fix the scoring and a little more thought and this could be a great H2H scenario, but not yet.
Resolve then, that on this very ground, with small flags waving and tinny blasts on tiny trumpets, we shall meet the enemy, and not only may he be ours, he may be us. --Walt Kelly

This is a v.1.0 and a Night scenario. LOS, concealment and mobility at night wer good news for the Communist forces.
