In early 1964, the PLA had entered Vietnam to stabilize the region after a ten year civil war. A few years of occupation lead the Vietnamese to revolt and retake the southern capital of Saigon. Surrounded and desperate for international support, a Rapid Reaction Force from the US Marines was assembled and found itself offshore from Vung Tau, a small harbor not far from Saigon. The early morning hours found the Marines moving to shore, ready to assault the beaches.
