At 1430, B Squadron of the Hussars, led the advance with the men of the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada riding on the decks. The Canadian infantry was forced to dismount the tanks in Norrey. The tanks continued on to deal with the threat.
A short while later the commander of the Hussars, Lieutenant Colonel Colwell, recalled the attack force to the start line. B Squadron didn't get the message. They continued on.
The tanks of 8th Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th SS Panzer Regiment, 12th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Hitler Jungend" were in the area to prevent a Canadian breakthrough. Soon they were on the move to find the Canadian tanks that were advancing deeper into German lines.
There was about to be a deadly encounter.
