The Das Reich SS Division, with armor support from 10.Tank Division, advance into Uschakowo was checked by Soviet bomber attacks. Flying below the overcast skies, the Soviet bombers went in. Within hours a Soviet counterattack was under way to take back Uschakowo. The Soviet 100.Rifle Divison would counterattack with combined arms support and would become the first Guards unit of the Soviet Army: 1.Guards Rifle Division.
