1 May 1945 Sankt Polten, Austria Hitler was convinced that the Russians were going to attack in force in the south so on 4 April he ordered that the Fuhrer Division and the 25th Panzer Division be sent to the defense of Vienna. Vienna fell on the 7th of April to units of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. Soviet forces then began advancing deep into Austria. After having captured Vienna, Linz is next on their list. The Russian Armies are flooding to the west, never knowing where the Germans will stand and fight. As they begin to advance south out of the town of Sankt Polten (Saint Polten), they meet another German force, willing and determined to fight. As is often the case, the Germans are desperate to keep the area free, from the advancing Russian hordes. Too often, now, Kampfgruppen(combat or battle groups)are called on to do the work of divisions. Many times the Russians find the German Kampfgruppen to be deadly adversaries. Here, just about half way between Vienna and Linz, a Kampfgruppen commanded by a Haupsturmfuhrer of the 1st SS Panzer Division "LAH", prepares to meet Soviet forces again. This time, the Russians will meet something that they had never met before. This time, they will meet the Jadgtigers!
