The 2nd SS Panzer Division had a long and distinguished combat record. This was a very experienced division. During the third week in March 1945 they reported doing combat with a new Soviet tank.

The 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts included the 4th and 9th Guards Armies, as well as the 6th Guards Tank Army. All of these formations were involved in the fighting around the Lake Balaton and Vienna operations. This is the area that the 2nd SS Panzer Division reported the new tank.
