Game setup – I would have liked a few minefields to position myself, instead of them all preset. I wish the briefing warned about the short LOS at the beginning – I would have changed some of my deployments and (perhaps I should have known this) that the pack howitzers were LOS artillery bombardment, because I did not know that fact, I placed 2 pre-registered fire at sites that I could not effectively bomb.
The mix of forces for both sides was interesting. I have a better feel for the allied order of of battle, having played as the Americans, and thought their force composition was accurate, as well as their tactical situation. German side from my perspective had all kinds of weird and wonderful kit at their disposal.
Zinzan was able to really attrition my initial forces with his starting force and reinforcements that came into play partway through the battle and could have easily captured the town earlier than he did. I had wondered why he didn't cross over the river sooner than he did (later learned from him that he made some costly errors) to take advantage of my poor situation. Apparently my forces were able to significantly whittle away at his infantry and his armor and support vehicles. I got late reinforcements which helped turn the tide but by the end of the game a large percentage of that force was also decimated by his forces.
This thing was really up in the air until my infantry got some lucky breaks and took out his last bit of armor at which point what was left of his infantry collapsed and ran away (the German force had a single man left at the end of the battle). It is an attestation to the destruction visited upon the Americans by his forces as to the closeness in the total score, and had his last armored forced remained intact I think he would have still held at least half of the town and this would have ended in a draw or even a small German victory.
