1530, August 10 1943 Vallebruca, Northern Sicily The drive along the northern coast to Messina has been slow and arduous as the 29th Panzergrenadier Division seeks to delay us at every town and ridgeline. Past San Fratello, the Germans have established a surveillance line along a tall ridge that can observe and call down artillery fire on 3rd Infantry Division units moving along Highway 113 on the coast. While the main 3rd Infantry force continues to move east, a small force from 3rd Ranger Battalion has been split off to begin clearing this ridge of German outposts. The small settlement of Vallebruca lies on the road travelling up the ridge, and appears to be defended by a small German outpost.

If the Axis forces are craftily positioned, this is an excellent and exciting scenario

Well, one only has to look at the results for this battle to see how unbalanced it is: 12 battles reported with 10 of them being total allied victories. My friend Stonecutter and I abandoned our game as he was well on his way to being the 11th total allied victory.
The problem with this battle is the incredibly few good lines of sight positions for the Germans (leaving lots of dead ground for the Rangers easy approach). The Stuarts can race around with ease and engage anything that peeks out. A tiny battlefield, combined with very poor lines of sight, is an easy Allied victory. The German Commander should have withdrawn to the next village or ridge line to make his stand...

I would agree that this battle is heavily tilted in the favour of the US side. It is a tiny battlefield and the speedy Stewarts are up close and engaging as soon as they arrive. With only a platoon of German defenders, having 2 tanks with cannister ammo & MGs running around with near impunity for 5-10 minutes allows the Rangers to close in and finish off the defenders before German armour arrives. Although the ATG should keep the Stewarts honest, the dead ground & sight lines mean it gets little opportunity to engage them. This would actually be a good battle to remove all armour and the ATG as an all infantry attack would likely prove much more challenging for both sides.
