The German player must place all his antitank elements in the best possible locations to avoid being spotted. They are your only real defense against the American armor. The Mountain Pass buildings are hard to destroy even with 105mm guns, so don't lose them. It will be hard to win without them.
Balance seems to favor Allies because the Axis defense is based on a few guns and some infantry, while Allies have several tanks, off-map arty, and quite a bit of infantry with halftracks. Would be better balanced if Axis had more guns or a couple of tanks, or if the Allies had less time to reach their objective and thus had to hurry and make mistakes that would expose them to the Axis guns before those guns were taken out. Still, an interesting map, and the scenario remains a lot of fun to play--thus the high rating despite balance issues.
Fun game, despite the total loss, cheers Duff. A beautiful map with some subtle attention to detail. Some cagey early recon makes for a proper start, middle and end. As mentioned your AT asset placement is particularly crucial - mine all died without letting off a shot! :)
This felt like it was Allies against the AI. The German setup zones are too restrictive, making the German defense locations predictable. The Germans lack any type of maneuverability. So the US player can sit back at a safe distance and leisurely pick apart the German units with impunity. The outcome of this battle was never in doubt from the first turn.
