"The Battle of Paraitakene occurred north-east of Susa - one of the four capitals of the former Achaemenid Persian empire - between rival diadochoi Antigonos I Monophthalmos and Eumenes of Cardia. Eumenes had previously defeated and slain Krateros - another of the diadochoi and an ally of Antigonos - in a battle near the Hellespont in 321 BC. Despite being outnumbered by Antigonos at Paraitakene, Eumenes superior generalship resulted in the battle ending indecisively with heavier Antigonid losses. But Antigonos was to have his revenge the following winter at Gabiene. The oobs and troop deployments provided for this battle by Diodorus are quite detailed and his source was probably an eye-witness in Eumenes' army."
