"After being deprived of his province of Babylonia by Antigonos in 315 BC, Seleukos rashly invaded with a small force supplied by Ptolemy in the hope of gaining the support of his former subjects. Although Seleukos managed to captured Babylon, Antigonos' general Nikanor soon arrived with an army of 17,000 men. Since Seleukos only had 3,400 men, his only hope of defeating the enemy was to launch a surpirse nocturnal attack from the marshes. In the confusion which followed, a lot of Nikanor's ally Evagoras' troops switched sides after he was slain and this enabled Seleukos to secure a decisive victory and secure his position."
