Khe Ta Laou valley, 30km SW of Quang Tri, Quang Tri Province, I CTZ. (Play only as US). On 1 April 1970, the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) launched operation Texas Star in the northern provinces of I Corps in order to stop North Vietnamese infiltrations toward the pacified coastal lowlands. The climax of this 5-months campaign came on 13 August 1970 when the 2/502 Battalion was air-assaulted into a narrow, remote valley located near the laotian border. This valley, known as Khe Ta Laou or "13th valley", was believed to shelter the Headquarters of the NVA 7th Front and to be a major communist staging area ever since the Tet offensive of 1968. This sanctuary had never been violated by any allied troops before, and the north vietnamese were feeling at home. This was about to change. SOURCES: This scenario is based on "The 13th Valley" by John M. Del Vecchio; though a fiction book, the battle for the Khe Ta Laou really did occur in August 1970, this is my attempt at recreating it. NOTES: 1/For some reason, helicopter units cant negociate steep elevation changes, be very careful when moving them. 2/Think of using 2/502 HQ to "resupply" your companies periodically. 3/I have deliberatly set the max visibility to 4 in order to better imporve fog of war. 4/There is no objectives in this scnenario, victory will be determined only on bodycount and kill ratio.
