As the American forces changed from a defensive to a counter-attack posture, newly arrived units started to enter the battle. Such was the case for the 11th Armored Division. Quickly moved accross the channel, the division was ordered to assist in the relief of Bastogne.
After a shaky start which saw the 11th attack and then retreat under pressure, the division's CCB was ordered to make an attack on a narrow front whose objective was the heavily defended village of Chenogne.
