As the sun rose on June 14, the Scots Guards found that the Marines had retreated from Tumbledown and the summit was theirs. It had been a near run thing though. Fifth Infantry Brigade elected to continue the fight by an attack by the Welsh Guards down the Port Stanley Track towards Sapper Hill.//The Welsh Guards had suffered severe losses when their transports had been bombed in Bluff Cove. Two companies of Marines from 40th Marine Commando had been put under their command to compensate for the lost men. In addition, a portion of the Ghurka's mortars had also been assigned to the Guards, as their mortar platoon had been almost entirely eliminated. The guardsmen were helicoptered to the track just south of Mt Harriet, except for a troop of Marines who were landed at the base of Sapper Hill by mistake. The Guardsmen moved out with the Recce Platoon in the lead.

The Argentinean's morale was just about at rock-bottom, but rather than concede that the end was near, General Joffre elected to counterattack. He still had two companies of the 25th Regiment de Infanteria, considered by many to be the best unit in the Argentine Army. He ordered these troops to move towards Bluff Cove on the track to Goose Green and try and reach the British logistical base there. He hoped that this would slow down the British assault allowing his troops to dig in on the approaches to Port Stanley. This might allow his government to seek a diplomatic solution, preventing house to house fighting in Port Stanley and that would be preferable to a surrender.

The two attacks both started at about 1030 hours and headed directly towards each other.

Note - The turf on the Falkland Islands, especially in late Fall and early Winter, is a soggy peat with little traction for wheeled vehicles. The breakdown modifier for vehicles is consequently higher than in other games of this series.
